Allen Refractories in Pataskala, Ohio, has been in business for over 50 years. It is a family-owned and woman-operated company. We are a well-established refractory distribution and contracting business, performing refractory projects throughout the United States since 1970. Safety, quality, and service drive us to perform better than others. We have a team of experienced engineers and technicians who work closely with customers to develop custom refractory solutions to meet their specific needs. We warehouse a large inventory of refractory materials for sales and emergency needs, including but not limited to gunite, castables, bricks, rams, mortars, anchors, ceramic fiber rope, and blanket. This means limited downtime for our customers and ultimately savings by eliminating your facility’s downtime.

Our ‘White Hat’ Founders

James Allen and Margaret O’Connor Shackelford

Refractory Products Refractory Construction

On February 19, 1970, from an office in their home in Canal Winchester, Ohio, Jim and Peig Shackelford co-founded Allen Refractories Company. Since then, we have grown to over 50 full-time employees and are now located on a beautiful 8-acre campus north of Pataskala, Ohio.

Jim and Peig always attributed our growth and success to three things:

- First, our greatest asset for sure is our employees.

- Secondly, we have the most refined customers.

- And lastly, to reminisce just a bit – in the early days of our company, we used to say to one another that we were the 'white hats,' referring to the old 1970s cliché about good guys always wearing white hats in westerns. We did the right thing because it is the right thing to do, not just what is expedient. It may sound a little 'corny,' but this value is not typical in today's business culture.

Today, Allen Refractories Company continues to grow and be successful because of those same three factors: our employees, our valued customers, and our business philosophy, where we always conduct ourselves honestly, ethically, and morally.
